With the recent release of Windows Vista, the security of the new operating system will be coming under scrutiny.
According to the BBC, “Microsoft Windows has been the biggest target for hackers in recent years.” Although previous versions of Windows had security risks, it has been claimed that the new version of Windows, Vista, has even more security blunders and that the effects of these will be seen for many years to come. A recent poll at a security conference revealed that 97% of people polled believed that Vista will have security problems for years to come.
It has been claimed that the release of Vista was too early and that there were still many bugs in the operating system. It seems that making money is a higher priority than ensuring a safe, reliable operating system.
Hackers are currently being paid to find the weaknesses in this new operating system. Considering that Windows is used in many homes worldwide (estimated 90% of us), it creates a worrying concern of what internet criminals and hackers may get up to if they find easy ways to hack in to the new Windows Vista operating system.
